About Us
Edgewood Childcare Centre
Edgewood Childcare Centre has operated for over 30 years and is a bilingual preschool located in Ottawa that provides educational care for children 2.6 to 5 years of age. Our mission is to build confidence and independence while providing: social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth through developmental and age-appropriate experiences for your child. Encouraging each individual to realize their potential in a loving and caring environment where they feel safe and secure. Edgewood Childcare Centre is licensed through the Ministry of Education of Ontario, and meets all regulations set out in the Child Care & Early Years Act (CCEYA). It is also regularly inspected by the Public Health Department of Ottawa.

Our Services
Balanced Curriculum For Your Child.
Our educators offer a variety of daily opportunities for each child to explore their world through played-based exploration and activities such as: sensory activities, fine motor skill development, creative arts, mathematics, language arts, science, nature, dramatic play.
Our goal is to encourage self-regulation, developing the ability to learn right from wrong, providing opportunities to treat others the way you would like to be treated, respecting people and the environment, ensuring healthy eating, hygiene and resting habits - and, ultimately helping children gradually adapt to life in society and integrate into a group harmoniously.
We also offer a very strong special needs program (working closely with many community agencies like Children's Integration Services (CISS), Ottawa Children's Treatment Centre (OCTC), CHEO and many others. We openly accept and have accommodated children with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy and a variety of behavioural issues.

What Parents Think
We can’t say enough about the educators at Edgewood Childcare Centre. Our daughter has been enrolled for over 2 years now and she’s always excited about going to “school”. She also can’t wait to tell us all about her day when we pick her up.
Our son just started at Edgewood this summer after we moved to Ottawa. Usually a very passive and timid child, he has made tremendous progress socially with many new friends! We are thrilled with his progress and will be enrolling his younger sister into the program in the Spring.
Great team of dedicated educators who work tirelessly to provide our child with a positive environment in which to play, grow and learn. We are also thrilled with the variety of food offered during lunch and snack-time - our once picky eater, now enjoys almost anything we make at home.
We have a son who has a few behavioural problems and we’ve tried a few other child care centres in the past which had very little experience in this area. We were lucky enough to discover Edgewood Childcare centre (who came highly recommended), as they have seasoned staff equipped with the skills necessary for his special needs.

Meet our Qualified Staff
The staff team at Edgewood is made up of energetic, loving, open-minded, qualified team members, many of whom have been with the program for many years (even decades)!
All staff undergo criminal reference checks and are required to hold valid first aid and CPR certification. Mandatory health and safety courses (WHIMS) are provided to staff each year.
At Edgewood, you will find a nurturing, supportive, and educational environment structured according to a developmentally-based, child-centered curriculum. We encourage problem-solving, responsibility, initiative and a positive self-image.
We believe that each child has their unique talents, learning style and personality. Our qualified, caring teachers and staff are committed to working with children and strive to ensure optimal social, emotional and educational outcomes.
Our Activities
Admissions
Children from 2.6 to 5 years of age are eligible to enrol at Edgewood Childcare Centre based on availability of places and regardless of their: gender, race, language, religion, nationality, disability or for any other reason.
We believe a diverse, harmonious and tolerant childcare population (children, staff & parents), lends itself to a rich and cultured centre and community. We welcome everyone into our facility and will assist new families with their integration into our community by offering advice & help when possible.
Ensure your child(ren) have adequate food & rest before arriving. That they are properly dressed for the weather and if sick kept at home. Finally, provide agreed upon items, such as: extra clothing, sunscreen, appropriate in/outdoor footwear & clothing, hats, pull-ups, blankets, etc.
Program
At Edgewood we create a variety of opportunities for learning throughout the day by offering: play-based exploration, experimentation & learning through developmentally appropriate interactions, environments and activities.
Our program includes a healthy mixture of educational elements executed via structured and unstructured play & games, helping to develop: gross motor skills, moral & social development, language & creative arts (including music-making), mathematics, social studies, science, nature and health & fitness.
Our educational program is bilingual in nature (French & English). We believe all our young children benefit from the challenge of learning a new language. In addition, we are helping to set the stage for a lifetime of language exploration.
Hours
We are open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please be prompt. We also recommend arriving no later 10 minutes before closing. This provides enough time to greet your child, gather their belongings and review their day with an educator. We appreciate this courtesy - as it helps staff finish their closing routines in a timely manner.
If, by chance, you are running late or face an unforeseen difficulty (traffic or bad weather), we are here to help. Call our centre to advise us of your delay. At this time, it may be determined that an alternative pre-approved pick-up person should be notified.
To ensure the safety and security of the children (at all times), please make sure your child is always “welcomed” by an educator at the beginning of the day. At the end of the day, greet your child and get “dismissed” by an educator on duty. By working together, we can ensure your child’s constant supervision.
Nutrition
At Edgewood Childcare Centre we prepare a nutritious light breakfast, morning snack, lunch and late afternoon snack daily.
A light breakfast is served between 8 to 8:30 a.m in addition to a mid- morning snack. Lunch from 11 to 12:30 p.m., mid-afternoon snack at 3:00 p.m and end of day snack from between 5 to 5:30 p.m. Special note: We are a peanut & nut-free zone facility.
We provide a varied daily menu that meets the standard set by Health Canada’s Healthy Food Guide, including a balanced diet of: water, milk / alternatives, oils & fats, vegetables & fruit, grain products and meats / alternatives. We also ask that no food be brought into the facility.
